The question, WHY DO WE NEED Y’SHUA, is just another way of asking: Why did Yahweh find it necessary to connect his plan of salvation with someone like Y’shua of Nazareth? I made an effort of looking at people’s answers to this question on the internet platform known as QUORA. Quora is an acronym for “QUestion OR Answer”. Here, any kind of question under the sun is asked, anyone can answer and the platform is visited by more than 30 million people per month. What struck me about this platform is how easily and smoothly people jumped from “Y’shua did something special for us”, to “Yahweh, in human form, did something special for us”. And what is more, ordinary people participating in this conversation were confused by answers in which Y’shua was sometimes presented as the Son of Yahweh, and other times, as Yahweh himself. Confused, because “Yahweh sent” and “Yahweh came” were often swopped around, as though both were the same thing. Many participants in the conversation often completely forgot the question “Why do we need Y’shua” and started asking questions about the relationship between the Father and the Son. Moreover, the answers were often so theoretical and abstract, that they did not actually shed much light on the real reasons why Y’shua is so central to Yahweh’s plan of salvation for this world. Today, we ask the simple question once again: WHY DO WE NEED Y’SHUA? Without becoming entangled in theology, theories and issues like the Trinity, we would like to arrive at 50 answers, to coincide with the 50 days leading up to Shavuot!

Y’shua once told a group of Jews that even though they rely so heavily on the Torah and the Prophets, they did not actually have the word of Yahweh as something abiding in them. Why not? Because they did not believe the One that Yahweh had sent. Not only did they doubt this One’s words and His actions and motives, they also did not believe that it was He of whom the Torah and the Prophets prophesied. The Jews hated Y’shua for saying this – no wonder they tried to stone Him more than once. One way to ensure that we ground ourselves in the word of Yahweh is to fully open our hearts to the fact that Y’shua is not only the promised Messiah, but also the revelation of a great mystery – the mystery that Yahweh freely chose to make the transition from this age to the next, revolve around his exalted Son!
