THE GREATEST NAME

alternate text

The fact that scores of people around the world have discovered and embraced some of the forgotten and neglected aspects of Scriptural truth over the recent years, is most encouraging. To me it is quite clear that we are currently experiencing a very significant movement back to the roots and the foundation stones of the belief that was part and parcel of the lives of the Hebrew prophets and the early (Hebrew-minded) apostles, and the Messiah Himself. This very important paradigm shift should give us all more than enough reason to rejoice and to praise the Name of Yahweh.

The tragic fact, however, is that many of the ones whose very eyes have recently been opened to some of these treasure-like truths of Scriptures, have not yet felt the need to praise the Name of Yahweh. They are still preferring to praise and to call upon “the Name of the Lord” or the “the Name of God” or “the Name of Jesus”. I am not in a position to cast judgement upon the way others are expressing themselves and their beliefs. Therefore, I shall refrain from doing anything of the kind. But I am grieved by the fact that the greatest Name of all – even within communities where “Hebrew roots” is the order of the day – is still seen by many as a “nice to know”, as opposed to a “life changing discovery”. When we allow Scriptures to do the talking, it becomes abundantly clear that the Name above all names  is supposed to be of the utmost importance in the day to day life of a believer and worthy to be embraced completely and without compromise!

From the earliest times, Yahweh was …

1  The Name that was called upon … 1 Ki 18:24 And you shall call on the name of your mighty one, and I, I call on the Name of Yahweh. And the Elohim who answers by fire, He is Elohim. So all the people answered and said, “The word is good.”

2  The Name people used to bless others …2 Sam 6:18 And when Dawid had finished bringing burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the Name of Yahweh of hosts.

3  The Name that was loved by believers … Isa 56:6 Also the sons of the foreigner who join themselves to Yahweh, to serve Him, and to love the Name of Yahweh, to be His servants, all who guard the Sabbath, and not profane it …

4  The Name to be feared and respected … Ps 86:11 Teach me Your way, O Yahweh; Let me walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your Name.

5  The Name in which to rejoice … Ps 89:15-16 They walk, O Yahweh, in the light of Your face. In Your Name they rejoice all day long, And they are exalted in Your righteousness.

6 The Name to be proclaimed and therefore precious to know … Ex 9:16 And for this reason I have raised you up, in order to show you My power, and in order to declare My Name in all the earth.

7  The Name that was called upon for protection … Pro 18:10 The Name of Yahweh is a strong tower; The righteous run into it and are safe. Ps 20:1 Yahweh answers you in the day of distress! The Name of the Elohim of Yaácov sets you on high!

8 The Name to be desired and searched after … Ps 83:16 Fill their faces with shame, And let them seek Your Name, O Yahweh. 1 Ch 16:10 Boast in His set-apart Name, Let the hearts of those seeking Yahweh rejoice!

9 The Name deserving of people’s trust … Ps 20:7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses but we remember the Name of Yahweh our Elohim. Zep 3:12 In your midst an oppressed and poor people and they shall trust in the Name of Yahweh.

10 The Name to be praised and exalted … Ps 61:8 So I sing praise to Your Name forever, When I pay my vows day by day. Ps 103:1 Bless Yahweh, O my being, And all that is within me, Bless His set-apart Name!

Scriptures declare clearly that in his Name …

11  Truth is revealed in a way that cannot be stopped … Jer 20:9 Whenever I said, “Let me not mention Him, nor speak in His Name again,” it was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones. And I became weary of holding it back, and was helpless.

12 Power is given to those who are otherwise not mighty … Zec 10:12 And I shall make them mighty in Yahweh, so that they walk up and down in His Name,” declares Yahweh.

13 Prophesies are to be uttered … Deut 18:20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My Name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other mighty ones, even that prophet shall die.

14 Seemingly powerless believers can stand up against a crowd … 2 Chr 14:11 And Asa called to Yahweh his Elohim, and said, “Yahweh, there is no one but You to help between the mighty and the powerless. Help us, O Yahweh our Elohim, for we rest on You, and in Your Name we go against this crowd. O Yahweh …”

15 Ordinary believers can withstand any individual … 1Sam 17:45 But Dawid said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the Name of Yahweh of hosts, the Elohim of the armies of Yisraél, whom you have reproached.”

16 Faithful servants can speak to all kinds of people … Dan 9:6 And we have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your Name to our sovereigns, our heads, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

17 Strength is found by those who are surrounded by difficulties … Ps 118:10-12 All the gentiles surrounded me, In the Name of Yahweh I shall cut them off. They surrounded me, Yea, they surrounded me; In the Name of Yahweh shall I cut them off. They surrounded me like bees; They were extinguished like burning thorns; In the Name of Yahweh I shall cut them off.

18 Those who belong to Yahweh should walk, and keep on walking … Mic 4:5 For all the peoples walk, each one in the name of his mighty one, but we walk in the Name of Yahweh our Elohim forever and ever.
