- Was Abraham dalk in ‘n tweestryd binne-in homself omdat Yahweh hom iets wou laat doen, wat in Yahweh se eie oë verkeerd was?
CLOSENESS, COMPASSION AND CONFUSION
THREE TIMES WHEN AVRAHAM GREW IN HIS KNOWLEDGE OF YAHWEH
- The relationship between Yahweh and the Messenger of Yahweh. Who or what was the Messenger of Yahweh, who appeared to various people throughout Scriptures?
- Exodus 3:2 The Messenger of Yahweh appeared to Mosheh in a flame of fire from a thornbush … 3:4 When Yahweh saw that he was approaching curiously, He called to him.
- Judges 6:12 The Messenger of Yahweh appeared to Ghiedón… 6:14 Then Yahweh turned to him and said, Go into this power of yours …
- Judges 13:3 The Messenger of Yahweh appeared to Manoach and his wife… 13:22 And Manoach said unto his wife, We shall certainly die, because we have seen Elohim..
- 2 Kings 1:3 But the Messenger of Yahweh appeared to Eliyah… 1:4 Therefore, thus saith Yahweh, From the bed on which thou hast climbed, thou shalt not come down.
- Hebrews 1:1 After Elohim had spoken to the fathers many times and in many ways in ancient times through the prophets, He spoke to us in these last days through the Son.
- The relationship between Yahweh’s justice and his compassion. What we may learn from Avraham about handling the Sodom and Gomorra situations of our lives.
- In a world in which we are surrounded by injustice, lawlessness and corruption, our focus should be on protecting and preserving the righteous, not on settling accounts with the unjust.
- We are called to intercede, not only on behalf of the TEN (who are close to us), but also on behalf of the FIFTY (whom we may not even know).
- Our message should reflect the same relationship between Yahweh’s righteousness and compassion that was reflected before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah: The salvation of ten righteous people, is more important to Him than the destruction of 1000 unrighteous ones. However, there are also times, as Y’shua pointed out, when the salvation of one sheep that is lost, is more important that focusing on 99 sheep that do not need salvation.
- The relationship between belief and reality. There are many different ways of looking at the incident when Avraham almost sacrificed his son, Yitzchak.
- Could it be that Avraham decided to sacrifice his son because obedience was more important to him than logical thinking?
- Did Avraham know that he was being tested and did he perhaps hope all along in the back of his mind that Yahweh would stop him at the last moment?
- Did Avraham experience conflict within himself because Yahweh wanted him to do something that was wrong in Yahweh’s own eyes? (Jeremiah 19:5: “To give your sons as burnt offerings is something that I did not command, and never entered my heart”).
- Could it be that Yahweh perhaps wanted to teach Avraham the lesson that the earth belongs to Yahweh, and the fullness thereof (Psalm 24), and that even our own children do not belong to us?
- Because of Avraham’s unwavering belief in Yahweh, the message that Yahweh Himself would sacrifice His own Son could begin to unfold, long before the birth of Messiah. In this way, our own belief is built upon on Avraham’s belief, not only because he trusted in Yahweh, and not in his own merit, but also because, like Yahweh, He did not shy away from sacrificing even his own son.
