alternate textLast week we spoke about how Yahweh sends people to accomplish the work that needs to be done here on earth. We spoke in great detail about how He sent Y’shua to fulfil the great mission that was prophesied about by most of the well-known prophets of pre-messianic times. We noticed that when Yahweh sends people, it doesn’t necessarily mean that those people had to be with Him, at the moment when He was sending them. It is said in the Messianic Scriptures (in John 1:6) that JOHN THE BAPTIST was also a man sent from Elohim, just like Y’shua was a man sent from Elohim. Purely on Scriptural grounds, we can NOT go along with those who insist that Y’shua must have pre-existed, in some form or other, for Yahweh to be able to send him. That doesn’t mean that the plan or the design, resulting in the promise, to send this anointed one, did not pre-exist before the actual birth of Y’shua. It is quite clear from Scriptures that there has always been such a plan, even before the founding and creation of the world.

This week, I would like to continue with the theme of sending. It is such an important theme in Scriptures. There are literally hundreds of passages in Scriptures where the theme of sending something or someone, plays a vital role, and teaches us what Yahweh has done on our behalf, and what He is still doing on our behalf. And it helps us to understand the WAYS and the PURPOSES of the Almighty, because we saw that when Yahweh is sending, He always has a purpose or a plan in mind. The reason why Yahweh is sending (anyone or anything), is exactly because there is a GOAL that needs to be achieved or fulfilled. It is no easy task to tackle such a large field of study, or to make a selection, as to which passages to pick, and which to leave out. We may very well need to have more follow-up sessions and discussions on this topic. For today, however, I have decided to stick to the book of PSALMS, and to look at how Yahweh sends certain things, associated with Him, to those that He loves. We will not be focusing on the sending of people, but rather on the sending of things, objects, gifts, and attributes – all of which are aimed at HELPING and BLESSING the people associated with Yahweh.

Let us start off with Psalm 18:16-17 “He sent from above … He drew me out of many waters … He delivered me from my strong enemy.” What is Yahweh sending us from above, when we find ourselves surrounded by “many waters”? Let us compare Scriptures with Scriptures. He may be sending us his HAND from above, because it is written in Psalm 144:7, “Send forth Your hand from above; rescue me and deliver me out of great waters.” Or He may be sending us his HELP (in any form!) from above, because it is written in Psalm 20:2, “He does send you help from the set-apart place, and does uphold you from Tsiyon!” Or He may be sending us his WORD from above, because it is written in Psalm 107:20, “He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” Whether He sends his hand, or his help, or simply his word, our own experience will be that it is from ABOVE. To us it will be unexpected, unparallelled and even supernatural! At the exact time when I needed it most, Yahweh sent something miraculously that caused the “many waters” surrounding me, to subside and go away!

Psalm 43:3 “Send forth Your light and Your truth! Let them lead me, let them bring me to Your set-apart mountain and to Your dwelling places.” This perhaps, is the prayer that we need to pray more than any other prayer, throughout our lives! When is there ever a time when we do not need Yahweh to send us his light and his truth? The LIGHT to see and to know Him better. The TRUTH to protect us against lies and falsehood. The brightness of this light and the knowledge of this truth, need to grow stronger, as we proceed along the journey of life. That is why, according to this verse, the prayer is to be brought to the DWELLING PLACES of Yahweh, not only the dwelling place (singular). The idea is, according to commentators, that the dwelling place or the earthly tabernacle, consisted of three different spaces, each one closer to the light of Yahweh’s countenance, or face, than the one before (see Psalm 4:6 “Yahweh, lift up the light of Your face upon us”). When we have only reached the outer courtyard of his dwelling place, we may feel that we have seen the light and that we have learned the truth. But we aint seen nothing yet! As it is written in 1 Corinthians 2:9: “Eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, nor have entered into the heart of man, what Elohim has prepared for those who love Him.” Let us proceed to the set-apart place and to the most set-apart place, so that we may discover more of the full dimensions of the light and the truth that Yahweh had not only sent, but also REVEALED to us!

Psalm 68:9 “You, O Elohim, sent a shower of plenty, You confirmed Your inheritance, when it was weary.” What does “a SHOWER OF PLENTY” mean? It is also translated as “a rain of free gifts”. Most Bibles say: “abundant rain” and one translation says: “You shake out a shower of free-will gifts.” The two key-words are: ABUNDANCE and VOLUNTARY. Yahweh always sends in abundance. He sends more than what we need, even when we think it is less than what we need. Because He knows exactly what we need – for growing, for maturing and for prospering. He sends a shower of plenty. But He also sends it VOLUNTARY. It is from the same word as the concept of a free-will offering. The voluntary aspect of Yahweh’s sending should change the way we think about PRAYER. Most of us think about prayer as trying to CONVINCE Yahweh about the merit of our requests. This verse, however, is saying that there are showers of plenty that Yahweh desirers to pour upon us voluntarily, without us having to convince Him. In fact, most of the times, he pours his showers upon us, before we asked Him to do so. Why? Because He CONFIRMS his inheritance when it is weary. The word “to confirm” literally means “to enable to stand up, to make firm, to prepare, to establish, to make perfect”. For those who are part of his inheritance, but who also knows what it means to become WEARY and TIRED and DISCOURAGED, there is absolutely nothing that Yahweh will withhold in order to strengthen and establish and prepare them for what he has in mind for them.

Psalm 107:20 “He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” We have already referred to this verse earlier, but let us look at it again. Yahweh often sends out his word to heal people. If it is true that Yahweh CREATED heaven and earth by the words of his mouth, it is also true that He can HEAL people by the words of his mouth. In Jeremia 17:14 the prophet cries out: “Heal me, O Yahweh, so that I am healed. Save me, so that I am saved, for You are my praise.” Jeremia’s understanding was that he would be healed by the WORD of Yahweh. How do we know this? Because, in the very next verse (17:15), Jeremiah says: “See, they say to me, Where is the word of Yahweh? Let it come now!” Nothing can heal us so COMPLETELY and so UNEXPECTEDLY like the words of Yahweh. The words of Yahweh are clean words, like silver and tried in a furnace of earth (Ps 12:6). The orders of Yahweh are straight, rejoicing the heart (Ps 19:8) and the opening of his words gives light (Ps 119:130). How many times have we not experienced that Yahweh had sent his word, through a message or a messenger, or simply by reading from Scriptures? And then we discovered that this word was so clean and clear and pure that it removed the darkness and the confusion from our hearts. It brought light into our minds and our emotions, and it changed our moods from despair and anxiousness to joy and calmness, that surfaced out of nowhere, and inspires us to cry out like Jeremia did: Yahweh, You are my praise.

We may not think about it that way, but when Yahweh sends something to us, it also brings HIM closer to us. We have seen that he sometimes “send” his hand to us. But, quite simply, his hand cannot be separated from Him. When we sense that his HAND is present in the things that happen around us, it means that HE is present. And this knowledge, that He Himself is present, is what REALLY encourages us. The same with his WORDS. When He sends us his words, He is, in a sense, coming to us in PERSON. Because Scriptures are teaching us that what Yahweh is, his words are too. His words are nothing more, and nothing less, than an extension of what He is. Just like his arm and his hand are nothing more and nothing less than an extension of what He is. What a privilege to be on the receiving end of the things that Yahweh sends us, because every time this happens, we come into his presence and feels compelled to cry out: Yahweh, You are my praise!
