WRAPPED IN YAHWEH’S PRESENCE

alternate textPresence: the state or fact of existing, occurring, or being present.
While we cannot see Yahweh “physically” – we can see and sense his presence in the world around us each day.
We see it in nature – the way animals, plants, trees, the stars and planets exist and “flows” around us. We see it in the beauty of a sunset, or the power of a thunderstorm, or the color of a rainbow. The question is – how can we exist or be “present” in the world – without the presence of Yahweh in our lives?

The Joy of Yahweh’s Presence:

Psalms 16:8-11
8 I have set יהוה always before me; Because He is at my right hand I am not shaken.
9 Therefore my heart was glad, and my esteem rejoices; My flesh also dwells in safety.
10 For You do not leave my being in She’ol, Neither let Your Lovingly-committed One see corruption. 11 You show me the path of life; In Your presence is joy to satisfaction; At Your right hand are pleasures forever.
Psa 21:6 For You have made him most blessed forever; You have made him glad with the joy of Your presence
Psa 100:2 Serve יהוה with gladness; Come before His presence with singing
Jud 1:24 And to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you blameless before the presence of His esteem with exceeding joy
Psa 52:9 I thank You forever, Because You have done it; And in the presence of Your lovingly-committed ones I wait on Your Name, for it is good
In these verses we can see that being in Yahweh’s presence, brings “joy to satisfaction”, “exceeding joy:, “gladness and signing” But to have Yahweh present, we have to set Him before us, we have to make Him a central part of our lives – so that he “dwells” within us. When we do that He keeps us from “stumbling” and keeps us “safe” – more on that later.

The Strength and awe of Yahweh’s presence

Psa 76:7 You, You are to be feared; And who would stand in Your presence When You are displeased?
Nah 1:5 Mountains have shaken before Him, and the hills have melted. And the earth is lifted up at His presence, and the world and all who dwell in it.
Zep 1:7 Hush! in the presence of the Master יהוה . For the day of יהוה is near, for יהוה has prepared a slaughter,
He has set apart His invited ones.
1Co 1:29 so that no flesh should boast in His presence.
Yahweh is an Almighty Elohim, who “shakes the mountains and melts the hills” – who can stand before Him and His great power?! When we battle with our daily struggles, isn’t it comforting to know that we have Yahweh on our side, fighting for us, He who “sets us apart”. The fear of Yahweh brings wisdom and strength (Psa 111:10, Prov 1:7) – let us never forget who our heavenly Father is, and that nothing is impossible for Him.

Yahweh’s presence is a shelter and a shield for us:

Psa 31:20 In the secrecy of Your presence You shall hide them from the plots of man; You shelter them in a booth from the strife of tongues
Psa 140:13 Only, let the righteous give thanks to Your Name, Let the straight ones dwell in Your presence
Psalms 62:1-12
1 My being finds rest in Elohim alone; From Him is my deliverance. 2 He alone is my rock and my deliverance, my strong tower; I am not greatly shaken. 5 My being, find rest in Elohim alone, Because my expectation is from Him. 6 He alone is my rock and my deliverance, my strong tower; I am not shaken. 7 My deliverance and my esteem depend on Elohim; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in Elohim. 8 Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; Elohim is a refuge for us. Selah. 11 Elohim has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That strength belongs to Elohim. 12 And loving-commitment is Yours, O יהוה ; For You reward each one according to his work.
Psalm 84:9-11
9 O Elohim, see our shield, And look upon the face of Your anointed. 10 For a day in Your courts Is better than a thousand days. I have chosen rather to be a doorkeeper In the House of my Elohim, Than to dwell in the tents of the wrong. 11 For יהוה Elohim is a sun and a shield; יהוה gives favour and esteem; He withholds no good matter From those who walk blamelessly.
Psalm 7:10
10 My shield is upon Elohim, Who saves the upright in heart.
Psalms 119:114
114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I have waited for Your word.
To be in Yahweh’s presence – or to dwell in His presence, is to be hidden from the plots of man, to be made strong, so that we can’t be shaken. In Yahweh’s presence we can find rest – and peace, we are safe. But to be in His presence, we have to be “righteous”, “upright in heart” – and “pour out our hearts before Him” – because in His presence, nothing is “hidden” – Yahweh sees and knows all – and He rewards those who seek Him and lives according to His words and laws – “He withholds no good matter From those who walk blamelessly.”
Psalm 91
1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, Who abides under the shadow of the Almighty, 2 He is saying of יהוה , “My refuge and my stronghold, My Elohim, in whom I trust!”
3 For He delivers you from the snare of a trapper, From the destructive pestilence. 4 He covers you with His feathers, And under His wings you take refuge; His truth is a shield and armour. 5 You are not afraid of the dread by night, Of the arrow that flies by day, 6 Of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Of destruction that ravages at midday. 7 A thousand fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it does not come near you. 8 Only with your eyes you look on, And see the reward of the wrong ones. 9 Because you have made יהוה – My refuge, the Most High – your dwelling place, 10 No evil befalls you, And a plague does not come near your tent; 11 For He commands His messengers concerning you, To guard you in all your ways. 12 They bear you up in their hands, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. 13 You tread upon lion and cobra, Young lion and serpent you trample under foot. 14 “Because he cleaves to Me in love, Therefore I deliver him; I set him on high, Because he has known My Name. 15 “When he calls on Me, I answer him; I am with him in distress; I deliver him and esteem him. 16 “With long life I satisfy him, And show him My deliverance.”

When we are lonely, His presence is there.
When we are afraid, He is our shield and comfort.
When we are sad and in a dark place, His strong hand pulls us up.
When all hope feels lost, he lifts us up with His love, and keeps us safely wrapped in His presence.
