GIANTS ALONG THE WAY

alternate textI have received an email recently with some photos that were supposedly taken in the south-east region of the Arabian desert, showing the skeleton remains of a human being of quite phenomenal size. It is said that the discovery was made by a gas exploration team called “Aramco” and that the Saudi Military has since secured the whole area and that no one is allowed to enter except the personnel involved with the oil company. (Strange, how many so-called “discoveries” are made that have the potential of making a huge impact on this world, and then they are kept secret so that experts are not allowed to verify the facts!) After the discovery spokesmen of Islam and Christianity have raved about these photos and claimed that they serve as a confirmation of references to giants in both the Quran and the Bible. Here are two of about ten to twelve photos that may be found on a number of sites on the internet, by typing the words “Aramco” and “giant” into any search engine.

Sceptic people all around the world have studied these pictures and done some research and it is now almost certain that these amazing photos have been produced with the help of some crafty photo editing skills and that no such discovery was ever made.

Which, of course, does not mean that the Scriptural references to giants are not true. There are a number of references to giants in Scriptures, some of whom were called the “sons of Anaqim” (Afrikaans: “Enakiete”) and although they were most probably not the size of the skeleton in these pictures, they were very real and they often-times made the people of Yisrael to tremble and fear. One well known Scripture reference confirming the existence of giants comes from Devarim 1:28-30, which is part of the Torah portion for this week:

Deu 1:28-30 Where should we go to? Our brothers have made our hearts melt, saying, “The people are greater and taller than we, the cities are great and walled up to the heavens, and we saw the sons of the Anaqim there too.” Then I said to you, “Have no dread or fear of them. Yahweh your Elohim, who is going before you, He does fight for you, according to all He did for you in Mitsrayim before your eyes …”

Many of us may recognise the kind of fear that is described in these verses. Situations and people that we have had to face that made our hearts meld. Cities that we had to conquer that had walls around them that seemed as though they were reaching up to the heavens. Tasks that we had to perform that seemed impossible and undo-able. Times when we were filled with fear and when we trembled and thought that we had reached the end of the road. Forgetting that Yahweh is our Elohim, forgetting that He is going before us and forgetting that He will fight for us – forgetting that He will do the same as what He had done before our very eyes in the past – when we had been captured in our own version of Mitsrayim. Let us take a look at Scriptures once more, to find out and learn about what Yahweh can do for us when we are meeting giants along the way and often have no idea how to handle them.

Deu 9:2-3 A people great and tall, the descendants of the Anaqim, whom you know, and of whom you heard it said, ‘Who does stand before the descendants of Anaq?’ And you shall know today that Yahweh your Elohim is He who is passing over before you as a consuming fire – He does destroy them and subdue them before you. So you shall dispossess them and destroy them quickly, as Yahweh has said to you.

YAHWEH WILL DO AS HE HAD PROMISED AND HE PROMISED SPECIFICALLY THAT HE WILL TAKE CARE OF THE GIANTS ALONG OUR WAY!

Deu 2:21,25 A people as great and numerous and tall as the Anaqim. But Yahweh destroyed them before them, and they dispossessed them and dwelt in their place … This day I begin to put the dread and fear of you upon the peoples under all the heavens, who, when they hear the report of you, shall tremble and shake because of you.

YAHWEH WILL TAKE OUR FEAR AND TURN AROUND OUR CIRCUMSTANCES SO THAT
OTHERS WILL NOW TREMBLE AND SHAKE BECAUSE OF US!

Jos 11:21-22 And at that time Yahushua came and cut off the Anaqim from the mountains, from Chevron, from Devir, from Anav, and from all the mountains of Yehudah, and from all the mountains of Yisrael. Yahushua put them with their cities under the ban. There were none of the Anaqim left in the land of the children of Yisrael only in Azzah, in Gath, and in Ashdod some remained.

AS YAHUSHUA , SON OF NUN, WAS INSTRUMENTAL AND TOOK A LEADING ROLE IN DRIVING BACK THE ANAQIM BEFORE YISRAEL, SO Y’SHUA THE MESSIAH, WHO HAS RECEIVED ALL POWER AND AUTHORITY FROM HIS FATHER, WILL DRIVE BACK THE GIANTS ALONG OUR WAY, IF WE FULLY PUT OUR TRUST IN HIM.

Jos 14:12-13 And now, give me this mountain of which Yahweh spoke in that day, for you heard in that day how the Anaqim were there, and that the cities were great and walled. If Yahweh is with me, then I shall dispossess them, as Yahweh said. Yahushua then blessed him, and gave Chevron to Kalev son of Yephunneh as an inheritance. (See Num 14:24 “But My servant Kalev, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me completely, I shall bring into the land where he went, and his seed shall inherit it.)

YAHWEH IS ABLE TO DO IN OUR LIVES WHAT HE HAD DONE IN THE LIFE OF KALEV: TAKING OUR FEAR AWAY AND MAKING US TO PURSUE (AND PREFER) EXACTLY THE THINGS THAT OTHERS MAY FEAR – IF WE WOULD ONLY CHOOSE TO HAVE A DIFFERENT SPIRIT AND FOLLOW YAHWEH COMPLETELY.

Jdg 1:20-21 And they gave Chevron to Kalev, as Mosheh had said, and he drove out from there the three sons of Anaq. However, the children of Binyamin did not drive out the Yevusites who inhabited Yerushalayim, so the Yevusites have dwelt with the children of Binyamin in Yerushalayim to this day.

YAHWEH GRANTS US THE OPPORTUNITY OF DEALING WITH THE GIANTS ALONG THE WAY, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, TO PREVENT A SITUATION WHERE WE START TO GET USED TO THEM AND ALLOW THEM AMONG OURSELVES, WITH DEVASTATING RESULTS TO OURSELVES.

(International Standard Bible Encyclopaedia: “The Jebusites seem ultimately to have blended with the Israelite population” AND “The story told in Jdg 20:21 … reflects the memory of some atrocity in which the Benjamites were involved and for which they suffered terrible punishment).
